Malcolm Gladwell Debunks Criminal Profilers →
Straight up essential reading. Gladwell reduces the common stereotype of the FBI profilers to someone who commands as much respect as a fortune teller. I’m pretty sure I posted this when it came out last year but it frustrates me to no end that nobody knows what I’m talking about when I say that profiling is bullshit and crimes aren’t committed by “loners.”

Conditions/Activities that Impair Driving in Order...
A non-scientific set of observations by an asshole. Prescription or hallucinogenic drugs not included due to lack of experience. 1. Driving half-asleep - No doubt the absolute worst condition to drive in. 2. Texting while driving - Way too easy to run into a pole, person or parked car. 3. Driving while drunk enough to see two of everything on the road - I’m of the opinion that learning to...

You Make Your Own Party
drinkyourjuice: So I’m only gonna say this once, but it’s been on my mind a bit since everyone’s been talking about it. And I get it, it’s almost Christmas time and all of those “best of 09” and “best of the decade” lists are coming out and you’re most likely looking at yourself and saying “Hey, this is not ideal. There are some things I wish were different,” and I get that — truly...

TV SHOW OF THE DECADE: SOUTH PARK
natashavc: I ask you what show got better with every season while still staying topical, enlightened, and hilarious. I ASK YOU THIS! South Park, more than the Sopranos or The Wire or The Desert Island Show, set the conversation for my generation. It influenced our humor and our politics. They were the series to make me laugh about 9/11 and offer a compelling narrative about the nature of...

I've always imagined that in the future,
guyverscythe: redguard: when people are free to express their sexual needs and curiosities free of patriarchy, sexism/heterosexism and feelings of ownership over others, parks and other public spaces would be given over to ongoing sexual exploration. Coworkers or people passing on the street might share themselves with each other on their lunch breaks. On a warm evening, new acquaintances...

My Best Albums of 2009
I understand lists are self-important, but they really do help me remember who I was at the time I wrote them. It’s a practice I recommend everybody do. I made the descriptions short so you don’t have to read 25 synonyms for awesome. 10. JJ - JJ: Indie Enya does good. 9. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest: Has their best songs, even if it isn’t their best album. 8. White Denim - Fits:...

On platonic vs. romantic.
dearcoketalk: Every guy I ever get really close to always seems to regard me as “just friends.” Shouldn’t it be the other way around? I mean, I don’t think I’m an unattractive girl. I’m cute, at the very least, I have honkin’ boobs, and I’m not unwilling to hook up. So what’s stopping all these guys from liking me? I don’t have bad personality, I’m not fat, and I’m not ugly, but it seems like...
